How to get an appointment

You can be referred to Talking Therapies by your GP or health professional, or you can self refer online or by telephone. Once we have received your referral we will send you a letter asking you to telephone us to book your first appointment.


What to expect from your first appointment

Your first appointment is a telephone call or video consultation with one of our practitioners. It lasts about 40 minutes and during this call you will be asked some questions about the difficulties you are experiencing. You will also discuss what areas you would like to work on and you can ask any questions about the service.

What happens next?

At the end of your call you will discuss the treatment options and decide which treatment you'd like to have.


Sometimes, the Practitioner may need to discuss your case with a supervisor in which case they will need to call you back. In some cases you may be required to speak to another member of our team for further assessment becuase it's important for us to get you the right support.


After a decision is made, we will be able to offer you support straight away. We have a full range of options available, such as our online programme, SilverCloud, Stress Less workshops, Guided Self-Help and Wellbeing courses. For those who require further support, as part of your journey, we will offer either a stress control workshop, or SilverCloud, to help you prepare for your face-to-face treatment.


In some cases, Talking Therapies might not be the service that could help you best and we may refer to a service more suitable to your needs.
